Low Success Rate

So, I was reading an article on CNN.com
http://www.cnn.com/2008/US/06/30/guns.suicides.ap/index.html
about the DC handgun ban that got rejected, and it was talking about how most gun deaths are suicides. And it goes on to say how very effective guns are in actually committing suicide (90% success rate.) And that other methods are... less successful. Such as jumping off of stuff, which only results in actual death 34% of the time.

Dude.

That means that 2 of 3 suicide jumpers actually live?! And just get what, insanely badly injured? Is anyone else finding this as disturbing as me? Like, there is a better than even chance of saying "Goodbye cruel world!" and ending up as so much human Jell-O... that is still alive and now really wants to die? Awful. This ray of sunshine to brighten your day is brought to you by Pat. Have a lovely week.

Yep, Jen sees lots of the "unsuccess" stories at her work. Most of the folks she talks about aren't human jell-o. Though there was a human s'more. A suicidal parapeligic was smoking in bed and she and the mattress ended up going up in flames.

She's now a very badly burnt, yet still living, parapeligic. She also had some fun with skin grafts and tatoos. Tatoos don't make much sense when they are transferred partially from one part of your body to another.

Yeah, falls from 4 stories or less have a less than 50% casualty rate. You really want to off yourself, head up to the 6th floor or higher, and make sure it's a clear shot to the ground below--no trees, flagpoles or pesky garage roofs in the way.

Wait, do friends give this sort of advice to other friends?

Oh, and the first time I read this, I thought it said hand "bag" ban, not hand "gun" ban.

I was reading this article on CNN.com
about the DC hand"BAG" ban that got rejected, and it was talking about how most gun deaths are suicides.

I was a little confused at first.
